Kindroid review: price, free preview, memory and what reviewers say
Kindroid is an AI companion app from Beautifully Incorporated in Los Angeles, known for its detailed character builder, editable memory and voice and video calls. Standard costs $13.99 a month on the web or $15.99 in the iOS and Android apps. Since October 1, 2026, free use is limited to a one-time preview of about 50 messages.
The short version
Worth a look if
- You enjoy building a character in detail and want to control what it remembers.
- You want voice calls and live video calls, which reviewers rate among the best in the category.
- You want official apps on both iPhone and Android, plus the web, on one account.
Skip it if
- You want to use it free for more than a few days. The free plan is now a one-time preview.

What is Kindroid?
Kindroid is a companion app where you design an AI character, called a Kin, field by field: name, personality, backstory, appearance and voice. It is run by Beautifully Incorporated, doing business as Kindroid, from Los Angeles, according to its legal page. The app launched in mid-2023.
Kindroid works on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web with one account. On October 18, 2026, it rated 4.8 out of 5 from 9,836 ratings on the US App Store and 4.4 from 26,165 on Google Play.
How much does Kindroid cost?
Kindroid Standard costs $13.99 a month when you subscribe on the web, or $15.99 through the App Store or Google Play. Kindroid’s live subscriptions page now shows prices only at checkout, so the web figures below come from an archived copy of its official page dated July 7, 2026, and the app figures from the US App Store, read October 18, 2026.
| Plan | Web | iOS and Android |
|---|---|---|
| Standard, 1 month | $13.99 | $15.99 |
| Standard, 3 months | $37.99 | $42.99 |
| Standard, 1 year | $139.99 (about $11.67 a month) | $159.99 (about $13.33 a month) |
| Ultra add-on, monthly | +$24.99 | +$28.99 |
| MAX add-on, monthly | +$59.99 | +$68.99 |
Ultra and MAX stack on top of Standard and only bill monthly. They add more memory and context and faster selfie refills, and Kindroid says they are priced to cover server costs rather than for profit. All three together cost $98.97 a month on the web.
Subscribers can also buy one-time extras in the app: an extra Kindroid slot for $3.49, 50 selfie credits for $6.99, 100 for $11.49, and 500,000 audio credits for $14.99. Web prices for these aren’t published.
Is Kindroid free?
Only briefly. Since October 1, 2026, a new account gets a one-time preview of 50 messages, 5 selfies, 5,000 audio credits and up to 2 Kindroids, then turns read-only. In regions Kindroid flags for high account abuse, the preview is 15 interactions. Kindroid retired its old “Lite” free plan, which had offered unlimited messages on a smaller model, on the same date.
After the preview, you can start a 3-day free trial. It needs a payment method, and on the web a verified phone number, and it converts to a paid plan unless you cancel. Starting a trial or subscription ends the free preview for good.
How does Kindroid’s memory work?
Kindroid combines memory you write with memory the AI builds itself. Its help center describes these layers:
| Memory type | Who fills it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Backstory, key memories, directives | You | Always in view; editable at any time |
| Learned context | The AI | Tracks your relationship, important facts and ongoing threads |
| Cascaded memory | The AI (subscribers) | Recalls hundreds or thousands of recent messages, less precisely as they age |
| Long-term memory | The AI | Unlimited, recalled by relevance; stronger on Ultra and MAX |
| Journals | You | Up to 500 entries per journal, triggered by keyphrases |
Reviewers like the control this gives, but say memory works best when you curate it. ToolsForHumans and CompanionWise both report gaps in long chats.
What can Kindroid do with voice and video?
Kindroid offers voice messages, real-time voice calls and live video calls in which your Kin’s avatar lip-syncs and reacts, and you can share your camera or screen. Subscribers can design a custom voice from a description or clone one from 1 to 2 minutes of audio they have rights to. Calls use 400 audio credits a minute from a monthly allowance, and live video uses more.
Kindroid also generates selfies and short video selfies of your Kin, and group selfies of 2 or 3 Kins. Group chats hold up to 10 Kins.
What do published reviews say about Kindroid?
The character builder is the consistent highlight. AI Companion Guides, after about ten months of near-daily use, rates it and the voice calls as Kindroid’s best features. The other common positives:
- Memory you can see and edit (LowEndBox, WeavAI).
- Natural-sounding voice calls (AI Companion Guides, LowEndBox).
- A steady flow of new features, such as video calls and shared Rooms (LowEndBox).
The recurring criticisms:
- Setup takes effort, and a new Kin feels thin until you add detail (AI Companion Guides, ToolsForHumans).
- Selfies are inconsistent (AI Companion Guides, ToolsForHumans, LowEndBox readers).
- Model updates have changed how existing characters behave (LowEndBox readers).
- Trustpilot showed 2.5 out of 5 from 19 reviews on October 18, 2026, with complaints about account locks, missing credits and slow support.
Is Kindroid worth the money?
Kindroid is worth it for people who enjoy shaping a character and want strong voice calls, according to the reviews we read. It is weaker value if you want a companion that just works, since the setup time and memory upkeep fall on you. If you subscribe, do it on the web: Standard costs about $2 a month less there than in the app.
Is Kindroid safe?
Kindroid is a registered US business whose age check goes further than a self-declared birthday, but its chats are not end-to-end encrypted. What its pages say:
- Age: users must be 18 or older. Paying users are verified through billing. Free accounts flagged by an age-estimation system must subscribe or pass a Yoti selfie or ID check, and Kindroid says it receives only a pass or fail result.
- Encryption: chats are encrypted in storage and in transit, but not end to end, because they must be processed to reply.
- Data use: Kindroid says it hasn’t sold or shared personal data in the past 12 months. Its terms grant a broad license to use de-identified content, and whether chats train its models isn’t stated.
- Content rules: adult roleplay with your own Kin is allowed. Since October 17, 2026, suggestive shared characters and posts are hidden by default.
- Store labels disagree: Apple’s privacy label says some data may be used for tracking, while Google Play’s says no data is shared with third parties.
Kindroid was not among the seven companies in the FTC’s September 2025 inquiry into companion chatbots, and no regulator action or lawsuit naming it turned up as of October 18, 2026.
How do you cancel Kindroid?
You cancel a web subscription from your profile’s billing section, and the account turns read-only at the end of the term, with every Kin kept. The steps, from Kindroid’s help center:
- Open your profile and select Billing.
- Choose Kindroid Standard Subscription, then Manage.
- Cancel, and repeat for Ultra or MAX if you added them.
Subscriptions bought in the iOS or Android app are canceled in the App Store or Google Play settings. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription. Refunds are generally not offered, app purchases are refunded only by the store, and Kindroid says it may ban users who dispute charges.
